The Biggest Secret of any Success
The Biggest Secret of any Success
My schooling went very well till my 7th class without any financial issues. Then my father faced huge loss in his business and we were in debts. While my father was trying his luck in different business opportunities those years, my aunt (mother’s sister) and brother-in-law came to our rescue. They loaned us money multiple times and helped us get through.
When I was studying my under-graduation, then came the biggest blow. My mother was hospitalized and all our little savings were spent for medical expenses. Few months later she passed away due to her illness. It took my father many months to recover from his sadness and regain his emotional strength.
At this time, I was yet to complete the final year of my under-graduation. I also had plans to advance my career in USA. My grandparents who were in their late sixties, came forward to help me out. They started a restaurant business. They paid all my final year fees for my education. I never felt like I was lacking money during my under-graduation. To help me come to USA, they sold off their land too.
I am indebted to all my family members who stood up for me. I am sharing these things here as I am trying to expound on what is the secret of success. I am a bit taken aback, when these days, success is attributed mostly to qualities such as individualism, independence, ambition, self-glory and greedy. Not to sound like a wise guy by saying “Such success does not last for long. At some point, any person who believes in such qualities in order to become successful, will feel emptiness in his life”, may I confess that success is just impossible without help from at least one person? If you are successful and you think that you alone are responsible for your success, I encourage you to take time for yourself and think about it again; that someone has been patient or kind towards you.
We have heard about many secrets of success; positive thinking, focus, dreaming about goals, taking action, effective communication etc. Even if we accomplish all these, there are certain things beyond our control. For example, any of our family members may meet with an accident tomorrow, or our closest friend may betray us in business. The important thing to observe is that our success does not depend only on our actions (or reactions). Imagine that while you are trying to survive in this competitive world, everyone else is trying to betray or snub or snap or pull you down. Sooner or later we will find out that our success almost always depends a lot on cooperation from others; mostly on someone who is kind towards us, if not directly, at least indirectly.
We have heard it said that behind every man’s success, there is a woman. If we think twice, we will realize that behind every man’s (or woman’s) success, in many cases, there is a whole flock of people. The biggest secret of success that is often ignored is - cooperation from others, not just from family members or friends, but also from strangers. For example, if you are in India, think about the waiter at a small restaurant who expressed his selfless interest hearing about your life stories.
The biggest secret of success (the one that yields happiness) comes down to 3 things:
- Realize that cooperation from others will influence your success, apart from your own actions. Do not lose their trust. In case you do, reconcile with them.
- Remember those people always. My grandmother always reminds me this principle.
- When you can, try to become instrumental in their success too.
Then pass on this baton to strangers. It is not that hard as we think. It can start with a sincere smile or a genuine greeting “How are you doing?”.
