Teachings of Jesus Christ in the Indian movie Enthiran / Robot / Robo ?
Last year I watched Rajni’s movie ‘Enthiran’ (dubbed into ‘Robo’ in Telugu and ‘Robot’ in Hindi). Because of stunning graphics and special effects, I kept wondering if it might be the Hollywood version. This may not be the typical Rajni’s movie; so it is better to keep your expectations flexible in case you still have not watched it, though it is another excellent performance from thalaivar.
Enthiran is Chitti, a robot that looks just like its creator Dr. Vasi, who is a brilliant scientist. Chitti can perform many tough tasks with an extraordinary pace and skill. Because Chitti cannot feel like a human and it does not have a conscience, it is rejected by the screening committee as it can endanger human lives. To get Chitti approved, Vasi works hard and enables Chitti to feel like a human. The real problem starts here. Chitti eyes on Vasi’s girlfriend Sana. Disappointed Vasi dismantles Chitti and trashes it, only for it to be found by Vasi’s evil professor Dr. Bohra.
Dr. Bohra turns Chitti into an evil being by embedding a red chip into it. Having been dismantled by Vasi before, Chitti devises a plan of replication so that it would become extremely difficult for anyone to destroy it. Chitti makes many similar robots like itself, which can think and perform brilliant tasks just like Chitti. The result is an extremely dangerous evil team of Chittis, all programmed to cooperate with the main Chitti for executing evil deeds. The rest of the movie is about a battle between Dr. Vasi and Chitti.
This reminded me of a teaching from Jesus Christ on how the Kingdom of God works. He said that the Kingdom of God is like a yeast that a woman took and mixed into large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough. The Kingdom of God overcomes the kingdom of this evil world like a yeast. Christ transformed his disciples so they be like him, and taught his disciples to transform others so they be like him too.
Unlike an evil chip, what Christ put is a good chip. This chip is the new heart that he gives when one believes in his name as the Lord and Savior. This chip is not programmed but breathed. What turns out in the short run is a free-willed human who is inspired to live a holy and righteous life. In the long run, what emerges out is a free-willed team of gloriously different humans where each one is gifted uniquely, yet having unity in purpose of advancing the Kingdom of God by their righteous deeds of mercy and love. I must make it clear that people who follow God sincerely are not like robots who are all similar, rather they may be very different; they just have the same hearts that of Christ. As writer C.S.Lewis puts it "How monotonously alike all the great tyrants and conquerors have been: how gloriously different are the saints".
This is an effective and a brilliant way of invading the evil of this world. Firstly, it is extremely difficult (or impossible) to conquer such a team because each member is like his leader. If one member is defeated, another member has already emerged out somewhere to fight back. Secondly, there is a powerful teamwork involved. Thirdly, the purpose is clearly defined which is to destroy the evil. The result is victory. This is the method God chose to destroy the evil in this world; by turning sinners into lovers and conquerors in the likeness of Christ, and finally wiping out the evil completely with His second coming.
