Nice thoughts Alan. I would call myself as an realistically-optimistic who is hopeful about better future.

Yet, being oriented is not a passive thing. You cannot simply click some inner God-switch and be oriented to God until you will it away. Our minds are always forgetting and so we must be continually reminded and strengthened to stay open to the Holy Spirit.

"Our inner intent is very important because only God can see the big picture and know how our actions will affect the world in the long run."

This is true, but that's why God has given us laws. I mentioned earlier that there are infinite possibilities and so God has given mankind the toolkit by which he does not have to see the future, he can have certitude that in following those laws the world will improve as God has promised us. - a guest

The choice we make in our minds to submit to God's inspiration or reject his inspiration is itself an action, even though we may not be able to see it. Our inner intent is very important because only God can see the big picture and know how our actions will affect the world in the long run. We cannot help but make visible actions once we have chosen our inner orientation towards God.

Action is the only path to transforming the world. Changing one's thoughts about the world may be significant as a starting place for action but only once a person acts is any reality formed.

Since there is an infinite possibility of actions, choices, failures, small or large successes humanity can proceed indefinitely without knowing what courses of action are in its best interest when it needs them to advance. Only God can give instructions to mankind that transcend this infinite choice and allow mankind to progress.

Optimism, hope, fear and pessimism mean nothing. There is only knowledge that the methods that you see working in the world are changing it for the better or not.

I think that you may misunderstand (or the people who say it as well) what it means that evil is an "illusion". Evil is simply the nonexistence of good as darkness is the nonexistence of light.

That's an excellent description of optimism vs. pessimism. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. - a guest
